📏 Roofing Calculation Methodology
Calculating roofing materials accurately requires accounting for the slope of the roof. We use the Pitch Multiplier method used by professional estimators.
Total Surface = (Footprint Area × Pitch Multiplier) × 1.15
The Pitch Multiplier: A flat roof has a multiplier of 1.0. As the pitch increases (e.g., 6/12 or 8/12), the actual surface area increases relative to the ground footprint.
What is a 'Square'? In the roofing industry, a "Square" is a standard unit of measurement equal to 100 square feet of roof surface.
Waste Factor (15%): We automatically include a 15% allowance. This accounts for the starter course, ridge caps, and the significant waste generated when cutting shingles into hips and valleys.
📦 Bundle Conversion
Standard architectural shingles are typically sold in bundles where 3 bundles = 1 square (100 sq.ft). Make sure to check your specific brand's coverage, as some premium shingles may require 4 bundles per square.
